The children and staff at Oakwood House Nursery got dressed up as their favourite story characters for World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. We saw a few Princesses, Spiderman and even a World! The children brought in their favourite books and were given a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can be exchanged for one of TEN special £1 World Book Day books. They are also going for a walk to the Children’s Book Shop at Lindley to spend their vouchers. World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. For more information about World Book Day and ideas on sharing books at home, visit worldbookday.com. Children are never too young to start their journey with books, and the benefits of reading are enormous—our outside story circle is particularly popular!.
