As an Ofsted Outstanding nursery, the team at Portland House aim to make a continual positive contribution to the further development of childcare and have a responsibility to share good practice in order to help other nurseries and care providers achieve the best possible quality of care for children everywhere.
The visit from Prospect House Nurseries, based in Leeds, came about after our long serving staff member Anne from Portland House met some of the team on a National Day Nursery Association’s training course. Anne made a great impression and her passion for childcare and education shone through. Quote from their training and development manager. ‘The girls spoke highly of Anne and I thought you would be the perfect setting for me to look at and be inspired by our journey to Outstanding’.
The 12 staff spent a twilight session with the Portland House team looking at the nursery indoor and outdoor provisions across all age groups, how the rooms are set out with areas for engaging children and the daily routines. A particular focus was discussing ideas to support staff in planning effectively for their key children and how this is evidenced for incorporating the children’s interests and progress reports and tips with structuring their daily routines.
Prospect House Team:
“Thank you so much for having us at your lovely nursery. It’s great to form relationships with such a fabulous bunch of staff. The passion for childcare shines through in every part of the nursery…’
“You have given us such a lot of ideas that we can use, you have answered many questions and I’m sure we will be talking about what we have seen here for a long time.”
