Nurturing Nature

Our first week of Gardening club at Portland House was a success, children across all ages came to enjoy a fruit planting activity. With help from mummies and daddies the children had the chance to plant strawberries, lemons and oranges. The best bit was finding the seeds in the fruits and having a tasting session as well. Once we had done that we learnt about ways we can use recycled martials such as plastic bottles, food bags and toilet roll tubes instead of traditional plant pots to grow our fruits in.

I hope everyone had fun and that their seeds are starting to grow at home. During the session on our second week we made our own organic fertilisers from egg shells, teabags and banana skins and enjoyed spraying the plants in the garden with them.

We are continuing our gardening club every fortnight so keep an eye out on IConnect for more information and we look forward to more of you joining us over the coming weeks.
