We had a fantastic time celebrating British Science Week at Holly Bank with lots of exciting hands-on investigations and discoveries!
The preschool children became little scientists as they explored the power of magnets around the room. They tested a variety of objects to discover which materials were magnetic and which were not. The children carefully sorted the items into magnetic and non-magnetic groups, making predictions and sharing their ideas with their friends. There were lots of surprised faces as they discovered which objects “stuck” to the magnets!
The children also enjoyed a colourful science experiment using coffee filters and temporary marker pens. They drew with secondary-coloured markers and watched closely as the colours separated and travelled through the coffee filter. The children were amazed to discover that some colours are made up of many different colours mixed together. This activity encouraged curiosity, observation, and lots of wonderful discussions about colour mixing.
Babies enjoyed squirting coloured water on to cotton wool to make beautiful patterns.
Throughout the week, the children showed fantastic enthusiasm, curiosity, and problem-solving skills while exploring science through play and investigation. Well done to all our young scientists!
