This week was National Nursery Rhyme Week! What a busy week we have had working on our singing and actions to our favourite nursery rhymes. The Oakwood House toddlers have been perfecting some classics such as ‘Miss Polly had a Dolly’ and ‘Row, row your boat’. They have been learning new songs too, our favourite was ‘Hairy Fred’ (a very mischievous spider!)
Did you know nursery rhymes promote singing and socialising. They help our actions and motor skills too! The rhyming and pronunciation encourages children to explore language. Repeating songs is a great way to learn counting, sequences and early numeracy. It’s also great fun!
We took our fantastic voices outside to ‘Sing around the mulberry bush’ and we even climbed up and down the hill with a bucket of water just like Jack and Jill. We used our song spoons as props to bring the songs to life and got creative using large logs as our bus, beep, beep!
