Habitats!

Following on from our visits to the woods the Fairfield preschool children have shown an interest in living things, how we help our wildlife in winter months, and where different animals live. We have learnt a new word “habitat” and have been looking at these in more detail when reading the book “The Gruffalo”. We looked at where all the different animals lived and what parts of nature they use to make a house a home.

When in the garden the children gathered lots of leaves and twigs to make a house for a hedgehog, we thought very hard about where to build it, thinking about if a hedgehog likes it loud or likes it quite. We talked about “nocturnal” animals again when discussing when a hedgehog might be asleep in our house and when they would go foraging for food.
