Feed The Birds

Showing concern for other living things is a great way to help build children's empathy. At Oakwood we have been watching the birds in the garden and decided to make some fresh bird feeders. Winter can be a tough time for birds. Food is in shorter supply and if an ice frost creeps over it can harden nuts and berries and make it impossible to eat them.

The toddler children squeezed their own orange juice and used the orange peel. The half orange shells presented a great natural bowl to hold the bird cake. The children filled the half oranges and then hung them up outside for the birds to feast on.
