As we approach the tail end of Autumn and we're about to embrace Christmas (and with it Winter), there are still plenty of natural play resources falling from the trees to enjoy this type of activity for a few weeks yet with your children.
Autumn Play dough
The no-cook play dough recipe can keep for months in the fridge if wrapped up in clingfilm or plastic container:
o 2 cups of plain (all purpose) flour
o 1 cup of salt
o 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
o 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
o 1 ½ cups of just-boiled water
Divide this base mixture into three parts, and mixed in yellow, orange and green food colouring to each one to create three different coloured playdoughs. Mix in nutmeg to the yellow, cinnamon to the orange, and ginger to the green. Adding both colour and fragrances to the playdough makes it a brilliant resource for sensory play; appealing to the senses of sight, smell and touch.
You can create a sensory tray full of conkers, cases, acorns, etc. along with the play dough for your child to freely explore.
