Charity

Portland Nurseries have spent many years supporting local charity Forget Me Not Children's Hospice. Over the years we have raised in excess of £10,000 for the charity and we will continue to support them each Christmas with the "Toy Appeal".

However, since the end of 2013 we have supported our chosen charity WaterAid. By selecting one main charity we feel we can focus all our efforts and hopefully raise substantial amounts and really try and make a difference. WaterAid also opens up numerous learning opportunities for the children that can be incorporated in to day to day acitivities at nursery.

We have had a great year of fundraising with staff, parents, children and relatives all getting involved. We hope that you will join Portland Nurseries in supporting this very special charity!

WaterAid

WaterAid is an international non-profit organisation that was set up in 1981 as a response to the UN International Drinking Water & Sanitation decade (1981–1990). WaterAid works in 26 countries worldwide, providing people with clean water, safe toilets and hygiene education.

Without safe water or sanitation, people are trapped in a cycle of poverty and disease. Across the developing world, millions of women are wasting precious time collecting dirty water, children are dying from preventable diarrhoeal diseases, and communities have open sewers running through them.

Between 2009 and 2015 WaterAid's ambition is that a further 25 million people will have access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation as a direct result of their work; and that by influencing the policies and practices of governments and service providers they will have reached a further 100 million people.

Please help us support WaterAid and make this possible!

The Forget Me Not Children's Hospice

The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice exists to give vital support to children with a life limiting or life threatening condition, and their families across Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield .There are more than 400 children and families in our area who need the help the hospice offers.  Over 20 children and their families are currently being supported through our Hospice at Home service. Each week this number increases

The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is currently being built by local building contractors, Marshalls, in Brackenhall, near Huddersfield. The hospice is due to be completed by the end of 2011. It will cost £2.5m to build and equip. The charity must raise over £2.5m per year to ensure we are able to help the children who come to us for support. Only 4% of funding needed to run a children’s hospice service is delivered by the Government.
