Oakwood House and Forest School became the third nursery in the family owned group, Portland Nurseries to be judged “Outstanding” by Ofsted. The nursery, which has been opened for less than three years has already been celebrating it’s well deserved result and the manager Samantha Richmond, who has been with the company for over 20 years complemented her staff team
“I am immensely proud of this achievement as I know the staff have worked so hard to establish this nursery and set such high standards right from its opening day. Impressing an Ofsted inspector is never easy but I must admit that the whole experience was pleasurable and the report a delight to read.
The Ofsted inspector recognised how “Children develop exceptionally high levels of confidence and independence because they are exceedingly well-supported by staff”. She also highlighted how “Children experience a rich and vibrant range of activities within the outdoor environment.” And how “this enables their learning across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage” is extremely effectively”
“Leadership is inspirational” and “strong relationships with other providers and with local schools ensures that children’s learning is effectively complemented and enables smooth transitions to other settings and schools.”
“Parents are very well-informed about life within the nursery and the “two-way flow of information enables parents to be comprehensively involved in their children’s learning”
Rosemary Murphy OBE, owner and managing director said “We have always invested heavily in the training of the staff and encouraged them to work closely across all the nurseries, together and to the same high standards and it is wonderful that this dedication and hard work has been recognised once again. I feel very proud of our achievement knowing that we are providing the best we can for the children in our care. However we are not going to rest on our laurels and we already working on new ideas for stretching ourselves even more.”
