Celebrating our Food for Life Early Years Award!

We're delighted to announce that Oakwood House Nursery and Forest School has become one of the first nurseries in the country to achieve the Soil Association's Food for Life Early Years award.

The award requires nurseries to demonstrate that they are providing tasty, nutritious meals in an environment that encourages good social skills and healthy choices. It acknowledges how we are supporting the development of good food habits for life through practical cooking and growing activities and food-based learning - both for children and their parents and carers.

Samantha Richmond, Manager of Oakwood House Nursery and Forest School said:

“Educating children and parents on the topic of healthy eating and nutrition is paramount at Portland Nurseries. We put a huge focus on a healthy, varied, seasonal menu and we ensure children learn why a healthy diet is so important, so that they can make healthy choices now and for the rest of their lives.”

“The Food for Life Award has helped and supported us to focus our efforts and it is lovely to be acknowledged as one of the first nurseries in the country to achieve the award.”

We are very proud of all the staff and children at Oakwood who continually work hard to highlight the importance of healthy eating and it's lovely to have this acknowledged with this award. Our Chef Ross and all the Nursery Practitioners have worked hard to encourage the children to take part in the prepartion of their daily meals and educate them about where food comes from and how to be healthy and happy. The children love growing their own vegetables and learning about composting and are always enthusiastic to try new meals!

Harlequin, Holly Bank and Portland House have also completed the award and are awaiting their certificates!
